Hi Bob, I just got this error when trying an advanced search for a text string from a single poster.

Server Error in '/' Application.
Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

I may be wrong, but I remember using it for a year.

While I don't remember every word stated when I purchased the life time membership..., I think it is implied that a life-time member would not have to pay for services that were included at one point in time during membership..

I don't remember the advanced search being presented as a 'limited time' function... nor do I remember anything stating that is was going to go away.

To take away a function from your customers that was once included as part of their membership is 'bad business practices.' It certainly isn't going please any of your existing customers that once found it valuable.

And if the new advanced search works better, and if it works well, then why not maintain that function(in it's better form) for those loyal life time members?

All companies have functions that become enhanced with time, and they considered it normal business maintenance. They all don't decide to start charging fees because they have finally got the function to work properly.

In summary:

You provided a service that was free, then removed it because it didn't work well.

Then you made it work and started charging people for it.

Advanced searches are normally included in these types of memberships..

Obviously SI is still a great site, and much it's better than other sites like Investers Hub, etc...

Si has the most members, and IMO you have done a great job of keeping peace in a professional manner(unlike the guy at IHUB), and people continue to feel comfortable posting here.

I'm just venting... Other than the advanced search fee, I'm pretty happy.

Peace.

With the level of interaction the two of you do here, when do you ever get the time to do architecting and coding? <g>
