You have it precisely backwards. The fact that a difference between 1100 deaths and maybe 1110 or 1120 "is not enormous" is relatively objective. OTOH for the extra few people killed or their close friends and relatives the difference is subjectively enormous.

Objectively the difference is enough to try to prevent. No one (except our enemies) wants a few additional American deaths. Certainly we should make efforts to prevent them, but at the same time we should treat the information accurately and objectively and not try to portray armor packs for humvees or trucks as some sort of panacea that will change the whole nature of the fighting in Iraq.
