Well, what I meant was, its possible, I dont really know and I am not trying to sell a bill of goods here, that his wife hired the Nanny in his absence and paid her in his absence, and when he finally came back home (wasnt he gone something like a year?) , there was then no more need for the Nanny and she was let go? jdn

He could reasonably have not known she was illegal.

I have had to hire help recently and when interviewing prospective domestic help its not rocket science to request a Social Security card and proof of eligibility to work. In fact its good, sound legal advise....

Now if she had such documentation and it was fraudulent, thats a different story. Individuals do not have the resources to do background checks for this kind of employee.
