Wife is a big wig at a Fortune 20 National Defense company. When I installed the wireless router, their security and MIS departments came to the house to bless it for use when wife connects to the business network with her laptop through our home wireless net. The encription of the Linksys router was absolutely fine after changing the SSID.

The reason most folks do not observe any security is that they do not RTFM and they have little incentive to do so.

I live in somewhat of a neighbourhood where many are employed in high tech sector. There are many who did not secure their wireless networks. It does take anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 min (or probably more) to read through the documentation and configure the security - correctly. If you play around with all options then it will probably take more time.
