But you see, what Kerry brought up didn't WORK

Ha!

Well, it certainly was intended to work.

Face it, it is a political truth that fear works, is used by all pols, and whether it works in any individual case depends on the skill of the propagandist. Hitler wasn't the first, and Kerry and Bush won't be the last to use and manipulate fear, which is the reason I objected to your Bush/Hitler comparison--it was so one-sided. I could use stronger language but I'm being nice today.

Kerry didn't lose because he failed to use fear. He lost for a lot of reasons, most of which are beyond this particular discussion. As respects fear, he simply didn't inspire confidence that he could deal decisively with the fear he himself mongered and which was mongered against him.

The only modern era politician to use fear positively was FDR--the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. It was an absolutely brilliant thing to say at a critical time. Reagan came close with his new morning stuff, but since those two inspired figures, it has been a pretty mediocre bunch indeed.

But fear was only a small reason why Kerry was not elected, there are lots of others.
