The media is notoriously bad at tax and finance reporting. We know this. Factor in the lack of ethics and discipline now in the ranks of our major media companies, and you've got a serious contribution to the problem. The nuts and bolts of Social Security and tax law are not "sexy" therefore no help to ratings or newspaper circulation. However Social Security and taxes impact people about as much as anything government does.
We need nightly reports, special segments with a reporter who uses plain talk and charts. Gee, something like Ross Perot used to do. Now there's a bizarre flashback for you.

Hi Sun Tzu, could you clarify thing for me on US management of SS:

about privatization of SS is that the funds(1) are used by the government as interest pool(2) to draw upon.

1- Does such a fund really exist and from where it come from? How big is it.

2- "interest pool" ... what you mean? Does the Fund buy T-Bill for example?

TIA

The short term cost in privatizing SS is usually quoted as $2 _T_rillion.

Seems possible, let's say some 40 million SS-recipients and
a 50% cut in the governemnt SS-tax incoming cash flow.

That is, some $50,000 per SS-recipient over X-years.

The solution is probably in "what kind of dollars" (index-adjustments) and in how "illegal aliens" can
be made to pay more SS without getting the full 10 years
needed to get something back??

Another possibility is riots in the streets and elections??

Another often quoted "fact" is that nobody even dares say anyhing about medicare.
