Ford's Hydrogen Vehicles are on the Road

Posted: 12/14/2004

Ford is in the process of road testing its H2RV, which combines an internal combustion engine powered by hydrogen, boosted by a supercharger, with a Ford patented Modular Hybrid Transmission System (MHTS). There are two H2RV vehicles on the streets of southeastern Michigan generating real-world test miles. The cars were developed based on the Ford Focus wagon and Ford is also working on a new shuttle bus with a hydrogen internal combustion engine that claims a 99-percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. The bus seats up to 12 passengers and is equipped with a 25-gallon equivalent, 5,000 psi hydrogen fuel tank. The vehicle is expected to have a range of up to 150 miles, depending on conditions and vehicle load.
