A few other builders in addition to Pulte are starting to emulate the factory built home-module techniques pioneered 20 years ago by Weyerhauser homebuilding companies like Pardee Construction.

When I worked for Pardee this gave us close to a 10% price advantage over other builders. Put more simply, in highly competitive areas we made a 20% profit margin when other builders were making 10%.

Once all builders implement these techniques, no one will have an advantage. It will all be reflected in lower home prices.

Pulte has opened up its own factory to produce major construction components and is testing the concept in a limited area.
