Lovins is completely untrustworthy as a source. He has been an unrealistic and overly optimistic cheerleader for the "hydrogen economy" for more than a decade. That is how he makes his living. If you go back to the early posts on this thread, you will see him quoted frequently, with numerous claims of progress that have proven totally unfounded.

About a year ago EV World Magazine had a two part article refuting Lovins' nonsense. Check it out:

PR is an important ingredient in marketing, but as a lad I remember the old saying, "you can drive a horse to the water trough, but you can't make him drink". Fuel cells, in my opinion, fall into that category. All the Government spending and private promotions may tickle the public curiosity, but the fuel cell market will go no where until the public is ready to buy. This moment does not appear the time, but the public may get thirst and starts buying. The bottom line in the profit column is what counts. There must be a mass demand for fuel cells before fuel cell ever become a reality.
