The excuses for the invasion of Iraq have been endless -- and empty. It represents policy choices that are absolutely not in the interests of the US -- and which run counter to the interests of most of the rest of the world. People defend these choices by saying we can do anything we feel like doing -- which of course is hogwash. But even if that hogwash was true, the simple fact of life is that our invasion was bad for us -- nobody could stop us and now it is painful if not impossible to acknowledge how misguided this action was in the first place.
