By "the commons" I meant the community's shared resources, like public space and ocean fisheries (from the notion of "the tragedy of the commons"). I find it a weighty issue.

[For the record, I mentioned the conflict between evangelicals, not fundamentalists, and the commons. The other conflict, the one involving fundamentalists, was with modernity.]
