Don't forget the illusionary and shallow literates who only read to recite but without any depth of understanding and implication of the message (i.e. reading between the lines). That's why mass propaganda works in any and all societies irregardless of the so called literacy rate. Compound that with strong religious beliefs that narrow the vision and perspectives even more.
