It has to do with religious reasons for wanting to exclude homosexuals from the heterosexual (and religiously approved) pie. Let's not cloak it in pretty language- it's a desire to exclude people some groups think are nasty, or evil, or, even if they can separate "the sin from the sinner", basically a group of sinners.

Now I think it's everyone's right to think like that, and exclude all the people they want to exclude in their private lives, and in their private associations- but should the government be in the business of such exclusion? Probably not.

There are often societal consensuses for bigotry- and that;s what majority rule gets you, but the government ought to try to be a little bit above that- especially a government founded on the noble language ours is founded on. It's not easy to argue for bigotry, is it, when you call if for what it is?
