One of my favorite sources for literary quotes is Quotations By Women.

Not surprisingly, there are none about pirates. WHich makes sense. Pirates weren't terribly nice to women.

However, there were many about gardening:

Gardening is an exercise in optimism. Sometimes, it is the triumph of hope over experience.
~Phyllis McGinley

A garden isn't meant to be useful. It's for joy.
~Rumer Godden China Court

There is a kind of immortality in every garden.
~Gladys Taber

To create a garden is to search for a better world.
~Marina Schinz

While not poetic, I thought the next two were amusing.

In what other job can a person be inventor, scientist, landscape gardener, ditch digger, researcher, problem solver, artist, exorcist, and on top of that eat one's successes at dinner?
~Dorothy Gilman A New kind of Country

Lydia was an exuberant, even a dramatic gardener..she was always holding up a lettuce or a bunch of radishes, with an air of resolute courage, as though she had shot them herself.
~Renata Adler Speedboat

That post about the Christmas letter was supposed to be to you. Although I do seem to have entered my manic holiday mood, I have not entered the dissociative state where I am sending letters to myself- yet.
Although I have bought myself a couple of presents.

Have you ever tried California Vegetable Burgers from Costco? And if so, how on earth do you get anyone to eat them?
Maybe calling something a burger raises expectations too much. Even I was appalled the sight of peas and lima beans smashed into a patty. When I turned them over in a frying pan, peas rolled out. In a really kind of spectacular regression to childhood grossout behavior, Ammo said it looked like they were in their death throes and losing control of bodily functions. Dan smothered his with ketchup and mustard so he couldn't see it, took one bite, and said he was going to Subway. I put wasabi on mine, which at least burned my mouth and deadened my taste buds. The boys didn't even try.
I also got veggie eggrolls and they were pretty bad, too. I am afraid we just aren't evolved enough for this.
