Many of the EU nations (like Germany) have been very reluctant to allow much immigration. They don't like to hand out citizenship to other ethnic groups. Much unlike the USA. Israel's model is very unamerican, but not so uneuropean. But with the EU, I think long term that europe will change in this regard. France is an example that has been changing for a long time, due to immigration from there old colonies. England too, for that matter

I don't think Israel has any intention of opening up its immigration like Europe is doing or the US has done in the past. I can not think of any other nation state in the world that was set up for one particular religion.........like Israel. Its a real problem for them. To remain a Jewish state, they have to control immigration very carefully, and they must come to terms with the growth of their internal Arab population and find a solution that keeps the majority of the population Jewish. They seem to be caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place.
