Cal got robbed... :)

How about non-stories that you would have thought might be big? Like the NHL lockout? Turns out even Canadians don't seem to care...

In sports, at least locally here in the Bay Area, the BALCO/steroids scandal is big news, along with much debate about whether Bonds should receive the dreaded asterisk. Don't know if that story is really as big nationally.

Another big one that might be local or just part of the economy one is outsourcing of jobs, to India in particular.

The sudden rise of gay marriage as a political issue.

The final episode of Friends, where reason and morality prevail, and Ross and Rachel renew their troth.

The death of Yasser Arafat, and the illusion that he represented the best interests of the Palestinians.

The projected reduction of US force levels world wide, to continue to build a "flexible option" armed forces.

The projected restructuring of NATO, closing bases in Germany and opening "forward deployment areas" in places like Bulgaria.

The growing oil/food scandal at the UN.

The controversy over the inclusion of Turkey in the European Union.

The holding of elections in Afghanistan.

The triumph of "Euroskeptic" parties in the latest elections to the European parliament.

The rise of socialist anti- Europeanism, when once federation had been a socialist project.

I think you are confusing forgettable with memorable.
