Some suggestions -- people tend to avoid seeking medical attention during holidays, and put off going to the hospital if they have symptoms of heart attacks, so as to not spoil the holiday. And the most senior members of the hospital staff, the ones with seniority, will be home, leaving less experienced staff members on call.

My younger son was induced on December 23 because my OB-GYN has a big family and makes a big deal over Christmas, so his Jewish partner would cover Christmas for him. I was given the choice between having an induction or hoping I made it through the holidays so he could deliver afterwards or having a stranger deliver the baby if I went into labor during Christmas. Strange but true.
