""we don't know nothin', so it must be safe!!""

Well, point one is that you are relying on a "call the company" source, which most of the smarter people here will automatically realize that for what it is.

Second, all the company said in that bloated release is one simple line: that they're unaware of an FDA investigation. see: "Matrixx Initiatives, Inc., the manufacturer of Zicam(R) Cold Remedy, is not aware of an FDA inquiry into the safety of our intranasal zinc-gluconate products."

That's a "no shit, Sherlock" point. I'm sure they "not aware." If the FDA, FBI or any other alphabet soup ageny is checking you out, you think they're going to call the CEO for a joint-communal press conference Love-In with Yoko Ono?

All the rest of that PR was just fluffy once it got past, "Oh shucks, we don't know if the FDA is checking us out. So therefore, if we don't know whether the FDA is checking us out, that must automatically mean that our stuff is the real deal!!" Hey, but that's just me, reading with critical thinking, analytical observation, stuff you usually fail to do. For that, I can at least appreciate, if not agree. It really is just easier to say "we don't know, so it must be safe!!"

I suggest you do some reading before you write. It's obvious you haven't done much to check your "sources".
