I agree with your post.

The whole gay marriage thing primarily makes me look at interracial marriage and polygamy from a historical perspective. Interracial marriage was illegal in many places, now most people don't really notice it. Polygamy has been legal but is most likely trending down. One up, one down. The term "marriage" though applies to both.

From what I have seen, people don't choose to be homosexual. Leopards don't change their spots you know. The guy I knew was conservative, hard working, very family oriented, would have loved to have married and had kids, etc. Typical Republican gay! He would have made an excellent parent too, more like a mom than a dad, but what the heck. Once he sorted out his issues, went on to become a CEO of a $1B/yr tech company and retired at 40. A "friend" of his from the time we shared a townhouse, however died of AIDS. This was the late 1980's. Not a good time to be an active gay!

I still think the issue is we are afraid that acceptance of gays and gay behaviour will lead to more aberrant behaviour. If gays raise kids, will there be more gay kids? Don't know, but I do think many gays would make fine parents.
