Hewitt - Pejman worries that "the vaunted skills of President Bush's political staff have deserted him." It would have been better, of course, had the Kerik nomination not gone south, but it is hardly a devastating blow. Given the number of nominations a president makes, a few will go sideways. And there is a distinct benefit --no potential Supreme Court nominee is going to underestimate the amount of scrutiny headed their way, and the collapse of the Kerik nomination is also going to put the White House Counsel's office on high alert for a variety of potential traps in the nomination battles ahead.
