Then I'm afraid you'll never like what they have to offer. The Democrats are never going to bite on a plan that offers full privatization with complete empowerment. That's the same thing as no social security at all and that would happen only over the dead bodies of all Democrats in Congress.

I'd love to see all of my 12% contribution (my 6% and company's 6%) get dropped into an IRA that I have complete control of, but the Democrats will NEVER let that happen, because Democrats don't believe people are smart enough to take care of themselves. They say it is immoral to let people take care of themselves. Well, actually they say it is immoral for us to privatize because that would leave old without a retirement, because they would squander the money on bad investments...which is tantamount to saying that people are stupid and it's immoral not to protect people from themselves. ;) Good luck to you Amy. I really feel for the younger generation. They are getting screwed on this social security deal.

Of course, I'm getting screwed too. However, being one of those stupid people that the Democrats don't trust to take care of themselves, I never counted on social security in my calculations of how much I needed to save, which has resulted in a nice little nest egg for my wife and myself.
