You know what I'd prefer?

How about we leave the SS cap the way it is. I think it's at $87.5K or something like that. However, institute a re-opening of the tax at gross incomes above $500K and have no cap above that amount.

That way, you skip the entire middle class and really get the rich to pay into this system big time. One thing I'm very much for is giving the middle class all the breaks possible. These are the folks who are clawing their way up the ladder and we need to give them an opportunity to move up without clobberring them. But once you're making more than $500K per year, well, it's time for you to give back. :)

Oh, and btw, I have a liberal view of what the middle class is. I think it extends all the way up until you are earning $200-300K. At that point, you can finally start accumulating wealth very fast, if you have good savings habits and don't live around Silicon Valley or New York. So I believe in limiting taxes of all kinds to people who make below $300-500K, because these are the ones who have probably worked their way up through getting educated or starting businesses. This is precisely the class of people that should be allowed to accumulate wealth. But above that, they're already wealthy. So more taxes will be less likely to impact their lifestyle.
