False analogy, IMO, JDN. I am as big a space nut as you will find. But NASA, like all government programs, has turned into "The Post Office goes to the moon." Let's emulate Robert Hienlein's book, "The Man who sold the moon," and go into space for a profit. You believe in that concept in almost every other endeavor, why not this one?

No "research" is really going on. What did we get so far? "Tang" and "teflon?" They are farming out the hardware to our Defense firms, which are always the most expensive way to do anything. We are in the midst of blowing a couple of hundred billion for nothing.
