I think people attempting to politicize this war are on a very wrong track. The VEHICLES they are talking about being unarmoured were NEVER DESIGNED to be armored. The were in the case of Humvees, light unamored vehicles designed to move people rapidly as well as small supplies. Weight restricts this ability. In the case of trucks, they were not designed to be driven through roads lined with explosive ordinance. This is a NEW warfare, not foreseen by planners. So, its a mistake to say we have a shortage. What we have is a new battlefield tactic being employed by the enemy, and we now have to adapt to it. Goes on all the time. FOR INSTANCE, when I first went to Nam, we had regular LEATHER combat boots with NO STEEL SHANK in the sole. The leather rotted in the hot tropics and bamboo spikes implanted by the VC would go right through our soles. These were replace by canvas boots with steel shanks. Just a small example of how the military adapts as it meets different strategies. jdn

...but I can't discount the opinions of the heads of the Armed Services and Foreign Relations committee.

Can you honestly say that when a pol is being interviewed, their comments are not driven by ulterior motives.

Show me a "pure as fresh fallen snow" politician and I'll buy that bridge from you. (G)

I don't care what their stripe may be.

This whole "sky is falling" shortage issue is being driven by politicians. And their reasons are diverse.
