It appals me that people in high positions are so stupid that they would make an issue of something so minor, and misunderstood through lack of education.

I suspect that those in "high positions" are fully cognizant of the fact that this is a nonsensical issue. They take the easy road and simply go with the flow. Obviously, not a particularly courageous stance, but certainly understandable. As Derbyshire said in his article, "…black people are a special case, and "nigger" is a special word."

Every time the word "niggardly" hits the national radar screen, the MSM has consistently pointed out that the word is harmless. Yet the issue is periodically recycled.

Words have power, and few words, if any, have more power than the N-word. While there is nothing inherently wrong with the word "niggardly", the use of the word, like the use of any word subject to misinterpretation, is probably best avoided. JMHO.
