Social Security has benefitted my family. When my father died fairly young, the survivor benefits helped my mother raise my little sister without hardship. When she became elderly and infirm, SS helped her get by, and helped me by helping her. I'm sure my story could be repeated millions of times by millions of people, without much variation. I'd much rather see the government spend my taxes on SS than the military.
Personally, I won't need it. But millions do.
