Problems of “Empire” will disappear and we will need only to defend our state border. Yes, they would get to be free riders on the 49 states, which would let a hostile foreign presence invade or nuke PA, and which would also take care of most of the foreign wars that a majority of people in PA would support like WWI, WWII, probably Korea, Gulf War I, Afghanistan, maybe the interventions in the Balkans.
