JDN, The history of the battle at the Alamo is impressive, but in the past they have failed to tell the tourists, that almost all of the action was in the compound behind the mission. I hope that has been corrected by now. The Alamo gets all the press, but there was also Goliad, Ganzolas, and San Jacinto.

The only place I can think of that would provide some tough off roading, would be up in the panhandle where the state line turns west under New Mexico. There are some places just west of Austin, and San Antonio, that have some pretty good hills, but between the human expansion, and scrub oaks, there aren't that many trails to chose from.
