The Shiaa are reacting prudently to what they are calling the Wahabi attacks of yesterday. In order to have the jan elections, these folks are going to have to be protected by someone or folks will be scared away even in the shiaa areas.
Since i am not particularly worried about persia controlling arab shia, perhaps the iranians have special forces that can be used to protect voters? The mandate would be for them to be there until ED and not one day longer so iraq doesnt become another lebanon. Somebody is gonna have to kill the Wasabis at least in parts of the south for this Election to have any chance. Just a wild idea for a monday morning. Mike
PS Maybe involving iran in the peace will be a good thing going forward. I just dont believe the crazy mullahs are as dangerous as al quaeda and if they truly wish to follow the chinese model, better relations with the US are most important. We are entering an era where there may be a democratic iraq by local standards, peace between I&P, Israel in Nato alongside turkey and perhaps one day alongside iran. Israel, Turkey, Iran as pillars of Mideast security goes way back in US fp.
Please dont jump all over me--i am just spewing a bit this morning and just thinking outloud.
