Nobody trusted china until deng made it plain what he was after. Treating iran as a pariah state without offering them a chance to get out of the box will be judged counterproductive by history imo. Tell them: Support I/P peace accords, stop supporting hizbollah extremists, and at least cool it on nukes until later on and we will open ourselves up to economic cooperation as we did with china. It is just as stupid to base iran policy on events that occurred on carters watch as it was to treat china as a pariah pre-nixon. Chinese killed many thousands of americans in korea dont forget and had a fledgling nuclear force at the time nixon went there. So we need nixon to china, moderation in fp, and then Ayotollah Deng.
