on march 29 I decided not to try to trade any energy stocks and just buy a mutual fund. thinking gold will outperform energy this past year, I put a small amount of my folio in ICENX and kept most of my money in gold. since that date ICENX is up 31.7%. my miners are down 4%. I should have put all my money in the fund. I won't be surprised if the performance gap is much greater next year, but the big winner will be PM's. I won't be surprised if energy is up a little next year. If you want some exposure to energy, a fund isn't a bad way to go.
