Why am I offended at bringing Hitler into a discussion of Christmas? Well, if you must ask, it's because I think of our discussions here as being civil and respectful. And I don't think mentioning Hitler having a similar position on anything as being civil and respectful.

Hitler was a vegetarian. He loved animals. He loved his mother. He loved to tell jokes and stories. He was very funny. He was very sentimental. People loved him. He was interested in science.

If someone told me that they were a vegetarian, and I said, "you know, Hitler was a vegetarian, too" I would not be surprised if they were offended.

If someone told me a joke or a funny story, and I said, "you know, Hitler loved to tell jokes and funny stories, too," ditto.

If someone told me that they loved their mother, and I said, "you know, Hitler loved his mother, too," megadittos.

There's no way to tell someone that Hitler shared their beliefs without insulting them, is my opinion.
