Personally, I think this kind of elite attitude towards the poor will put India in a disadvantaged position in a long run. If India can indeed produce so many scientists and engineers, why they even bother to middle-man the outsourced jobs they get from the West to China? Not to mention there are huge number of destitute Indians live in cities. Anyone who is not blind can see them when visiting any major Indian city.

It is true that China also has plenty of poor people, but at least Chinese gov. address them, and many elite Chinese are concerned about them, because many elite Chinese themselves are from the rural areas themselves.
