Had "None Of The Above" been on that Nov 2, 2004 ballot, he would have won in a landslide. There was a noticeable lack of real enthusiasm among many people who voted for Bush in doing so. They did so only because they had been given no real alternative by the left. If the Democrats ever figure this out and kick out the radical wing of their party, or at last keep them far from power, they can start winning elections again. Considering the arguably poor state of both the economy and the Iraq war, Bush should have lost. The fact that he did not should be considered a severe indictment of their lack of understanding of the people who really inhabit this country by the Democrats.

Bush also did campaign with intelligence: he energized his base support and made sure it got out and voted. The fact is that much of that support are the people you refer to: right wingers whose concept of liberty seems to be rolling over and jailing without charges or trial anyone who disagrees with them.

Now it's my turn to catch the flak. :-)
