Syria produces more oil than iran????

Call me stupid but i think US and Iran fp in reaist terms converges in iraq. They may be nervous about democracy but not at all shy about wanting iraqi shiaa to be protected and have some sort of islamic/representative govt while not being subserviant to sunnis any longer.
Syria also has strategic interests that demand stability in iraq. They are always the easiest of next targets for Madman Bush and they know it. What will come from the elections will be arab/muslim enough to differentiate it enough from western secular regimes.
