Fowler The bottom line is that you think the SS ponzi scheme should be funded from tax dollars (pay as you go) and I think that when money is withheld for my benefit, purportedly placed into a "trust fund", it should be there for MY benefit and not for the benefit of your parents (nor should your money be used for MY parents). They are two different approaches. Your approach has been tried and has failed. We now have a problem that is literally a third rail issue and has been for years -- one which the Left has used for political purposes. There is an increasing awareness that there is a huge problem here. In my lifetime there has been no more informed person than Moynihan on this; I think everyone agrees about that. Why don't you read up on what HE thought? Don't take my word for it. If you don't have the intellectual prowess to ballpark it on your own, for gods sake you could just listen to Moynihan who certainly did have. cato.org
