Well, like death and taxes, Social Security is here to stay. The question now is whether SS should eventually turn into a true "forced savings" program, just like what's taught in high school. Because from its conception, SS was set up to be a Ponzi scheme, because that's what was necessary during FDR's time.

It's safe to say that these days are much different from the days of FDR (as Al pointed out, ironically <G>). Yet SS hasn't exactly evolved with the times. Bush at least is bringing the issue to the forefront, though like you I'd prefer that he take care of the deficit first.
