Floppy to CD

I can see that pile of junk quite clearly, I made several of those through the years. When I finally decided to throw out floppies entirely (I keep about 30 kicking around) I ended up with a full green garbage bag of floppy disks.
Currently I am looking at stacks of CD's and wondering how many I have to throw out.
I am glad I never moved all my music onto CD's, dual layer DVD writers are under a hundred bucks now.
You are very lucky to have CW, I am sure people borrow him all the time.
A busy hard drive is a sure sign that you have gremlins, it should only be busy when you do stuff. If if chatters all the time it is probably doing something that is bad, like mailing out spam or reporting to headquarters.
The best protection against bad stuff is still a firewall, I use Zone Alarm Pro from ZoneLabs and consider it money well spent.

I don't like paying for things I don't use or need. I pay for my firewall, I pay for SI and I pay for shelter and food. I also spend small sums on entertainment.
I buy beer too.
