It seems to me that this is leading to perhaps the greatest potential obstace to Israel's survival. As in ancient times, fanatics may create a civil war that leads to destruction far worse than outside enemies. Although we don't see quite the level of Arab fanaticism, I imagine that many in the US will start to say, "They are all crazed religious nuts over there. Let them kill each other." Of course, nothing could be further from the truth, but the headlines will affect US opinion.

This is something that Israel and the alliance against terror cannot afford to have happen. Fanatical settlers have to realize that they are playing into the hands of terrorists and those who want perpetual war.

The thought of an army fighting against 15,000 die-hard settlers or having to fight Palestinians who take advantage of this is not tolerable.

Israel should announce its settlement/compensation plan. Israel should stipulate that those who do no accept and leave by a date certain will have to make their own deals with the Palestinians. In other words, after a date certain, the IDF will no longer defend these militarily indefensible settlements.

It's not a good solution, but the other choices will only lead to perpetual war, possible civil war and observations that Israel is no better than the crazed Arab nations.
