What you describe as conservatives sound like Eisenhower and Rockefeller Republicans.

I don't think it sounds like Eisenhower and Rockefeller Republicans. Those terms are mostly used for very moderate republicans that might as well be moderate Democrats. The people I am talking about are not accurately described in such a way. I'm talking about the so called "reactionary" Republicans in the sense that they want to roll back changes. The opposite side of the Republican party from the Rockefeller Republicans.

If you listen to what most people who attend NASCAR races, want to own a gun, want to pre-emptively kick butt, and defend our flag (right or wrong) at any cost - probably represent the majority of people on the right of the political spectrum

Wanting a gun, wanting to kick butts of terrorists, or the Iraqi regime for that matter, having a lot of respect for the flag, ect. are not things that are in anyway incompatible with the people wanting many things to be more like what they where in the 50s.

By that I mean people like William F. Buckley and Bill Kristol. Tell me that they admire these people and have a lot in common with them.

What's wrong with Buckley and Kristol? They certainly are not pining for 1904, if that's what you mean.

George W. Bush is an untreated alcoholic. He has a lot of unresolved issues. In a lot of ways he shares many of the same fears and loathings of people who did not have the advantages that he has had.

I think its generally best to avoid psychoanalysis at a distance. Its probably even better to avoid analysis of people you don't like or disagree with, such analysis is to likely to be biased.

but what must go on in Bush's mind could be frightening.

Other than following what he says I wouldn't try to guess what goes on in Bush's mind. Little of what he says is very frightening, at least not more frightening than some of the things many other politicians, including the Clintons, have said.

Tim

How many alcoholics wake up one morning, resolve not to drink again, then don't?

George W. Bush is an untreated alcoholic.

That comment is simply mean spirited and ignorant.

Mary C, W F Buckley, and Bill Kristol, have very little influence, if any, on the core of the conservative voters. Almost all conservatives want to retain the traditions that made this nation as strong as it is today, salute the flag, pray to God, defeat all enemies that may attempt to threaten us, and help suppressed people from tyrants that murder their own people because they disagree, and stock pile weapons to be used to intimidate any other country.

Now, what the hell is wrong with that???

Those NASCAR conservatives that you are sneering at, have the right to own guns in keeping with the second amendment, and it is imperative that right is maintained because, one of the first things a socialistic take over will do, is confiscate all the guns from the citizens, so they can't fight back when they realize that socialism is sham. The liberal party of today, is following the socialistic manual to a tee. All Americans should be in fear of such a take over.

Just what "unresolved issues" does G W have? All he has done is make a decision, and act on it before it is too late. What would you want a president to do? Sit around on his ass, go begging to the ineffective UN, and plead with the antiquated nations of Europe, before taking action? If so, you need to build a concrete bunker to hide yourself like Osama Bin Laden does, or the real world will come knocking at your door.

You have no way of knowing what is, or is not, going on in Bush's brain. You haven't learned the advantage of speaking softly, and carrying a big stick.
