I wish I knew what was happening in some of these cases. It sometimes smells very fishy. It would be great if an investigative journalist would try to get to the bottom of some of these. About 10-15 years ago, I remember an incident whereby a small group of people called a news conference in Ontario to claim that they were some sort of broad-based English Canadian group against French Canadians. They tromped on a Quebec flag for the benefit of the TV cameras while shouting bombastic slogans, and got a lot of media attention for one day. This was at a very sensitive time in relations between English and French in Canada, and the Canadian dollar and other Canadian markets were being affected by whatever degree of disharmony there was. When investigative journalists tried to find out who this anti-French group was, and why they had done what they did, they disappeared into the woodwork. The group that they claimed to represent had never been heard of before, and was never heard of again either. Of the couple of people found who were on camera, they weren't talking. One could only speculate on whether someone had paid them to do what they did (they were apparently some trailer-park type hosers), maybe in an attempt to make a one-day killing on Canadian dollar futures. Who knows? And with Cambior, Metallica, Gabriel, who knows? Whoever knows might be very rich, and is not talking.
