The president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences wants Chinese scientists to focus more on information technology, life sciences and bio technologies, material sciences as well as space and marine technologies. I wonder what areas of science are NOT covered by this big umbrella collection. Astronomy? Geology?
Paleontology? not much escapes the collection. Mathematics is not mentioned so maybe he is mobilizing mathematicians to do something else. Other than that, it seems to be a content free speech. Perhaps there is a hidden context which the audience understands and can therefore meaningfully interpret.
All over the world, administrators deliver grand sounding speeches, with no particular novel comment.
