Crude Prices Plunge on US Inventory Builds

The oil inventory builds took the market by surprise and might provide some comfort for consumers if refiners continue to produce fuel at a record pace. Analysts had projected a draw in distillate fuels and were split on crude and gasoline stocks.

Crude oil prices plunged below US$44 a barrel in New York today, after government data showed U.S. petroleum inventories rose across the board last week.
