Just remember the prime directive of our leaders has been for decades to control the world's resources and to benefit the wealthy elites. That is the code they live by, as demonstrated by war after war that has had dubious positive effects for our country, and by decades of covert actions to overthrow and control foreign governments. That is what their policies and decisions and covert actions (like 9/11) are driven by (when you read between the lines). When you accept this reality, it's not that hard to accept the utter immorality of it all. It's when one tries to fit this utter immorality into the worldview that we are brought up with, the U.S. being a benevolent moral force in the world, which is reinforced daily by our media analysis and lack of coverage of how the world really preceives us, that you start to have problems dealing with this harsh reality. Also, remember our leaders aren't stupid and the rich don't get rich and stay rich by making stupid decisions. The decision to pull off 9/11 was a well calculated one to further their interests and consolidate their power. Also, decision such as running huge budget deficits and underfunding domestic priorities are premeditated and delibrate policies that are implemented to ensure that the rich will rule for the forseeable future. For one, the rich make the money off the budget deficits. For two, they don't want people to actually think government can improve their lives, lest people start trying to get involved with government. For three, ensuring an hopeless underclass, by neglecting the poor, is an excellent way to ensure that there will be plenty of soldiers for future wars of exploitation, and keeps people from attaining too much wealth and independence.
