Of course they're not. That's why I wrote the post and I suspect that's why Steve pointed out that the public is so gullible.

Elections will not solve the violence. Limited and probably corrupt democratic rule by an intolerant majority will not "cure" the radicalism in the Middle East. Post election the rights of women will not be protected.

All of that is a "for public consumption" cluster of implied magical cures, and it's all much too readily swallowed by a public that is unwilling to acknowledge that if we really mean to see this thing through it will be our children who will have to do it and, if it can be done, the cost will be heavy in souls and lost opportunities elsewhere.
