the violence will not lessen until the Iraqis step up and decide they would rather live in a place that more resembles the US or if they would rather a place that more resembles the Taliban Afghanistan....

Are those the only two choices?

Jury is out on that one. I am beginning to look at iraq as one big concentration camp where it is futile for the inmates to resist. And i am not talking about resisting us. No its how they resist them and whether they have the means or the will is very debatable save the Kurds. mike

Jlallen, re: There is no guarantee the violence will lessen once the elections are done....and I never said there was.....the next move will be to try to stop the drafting of the Constitution and then, after that, the next set of elections once the Constitution is in place.....the violence will not lessen until the Iraqis step up and decide they would rather live in a place that more resembles the US or if they would rather a place that more resembles the Taliban Afghanistan....

The violence will not end until the U.S. recognizes that we cannot effectively control the internal events in Iraq and then packs up and leaves. When we leave the Iraqis will fight it out, reason it out, negotiate it out or simply kill each other until they all get tired of death, and then the violence will end.

Or we can help out and give them a jump start by killing a whole lot more of them. After all, if you kill enough of them you're bound to get the bad ones with the innocent ones. Eventually you're left with those who have lost the will to fight, at least for a while.

It wasn't ouR fight until "don't read much" got on his "freedom is a gift from God" horse and rode in to do the converting of the savages, Ten Commandments, role. Now the blood is running, the deaths are mounting and we've given voice, cause and justification to the worst forces among them. Can we do more? I'm sure YOU could think of lots of ways to up the ante. Ed
