You don't like Sammy or Dusty very much, do you? Why do athletes always have to go out of their way to act like spoiled brats? It pains me to say this, but our society is childish about race and foolish about language. These two embarrassments came together recently when Dusty Baker, the African-American manager of the Chicago Cubs baseball team, made a comment about the comparative heat tolerance of differently hued individuals. He said, specifically, that players with dark-colored skin tolerate heat better than those with pale-colored skin, the implication being that this affects their on-the-field performance. Dusty got in trouble for this statement? As far as I'm concerned, it's true. Seeing as how I'm very fair with freckles, I know I can't tolerate the sun very well. Am I a racists for saying this?
