I'm not convinced that there's a Civil War in the sense that the right wing and the lazy media want to portray. IMO most Americans are, by definition, centrists and they move right or left (left is inevitable over time) as a pack.

The problem is that the right wing fringe has taken over 90% of talk radio/cable and 75% of major media. The 24/7 barrage of right wing talk makes the country appear to be more fundamentalist and more nutty than it actually is.

If talk radio and the rest of opinionated media would shut the heck up for a year, this would be clear to everyone.

If you take all the labels off of people, forget about the divisions of country and language and ethnicity, etc. then the rest of the world is centrist as well. It's then a world war between the moderate moral majority and the fundamentalist fascists who are, unfortunately, in power right now.
