when i use skype out i get a small lag but no echo
i use there phone which plugs into the usb port

David, echo is related to the listener's microphone picking up the sound from their speakers and feeding it back to you. It's quite disconcerting. So it's better to have the sound and microphone separated. I use a headset and the sound at the other end is perfect. I have a microphone sticking in front of my mouth and two earphones.

Maybe there's more to it than that, but that seems to explain it.

Here are the devices Skype is promoting: skype.com I got a good quality headset, since I'll be using it a lot.

I figure echo is feedback loop via microphone as Maurice posted.

I have 6 MB DSL pumping in 63 channels to my HP with the TV tuner.
