It is 16 degrees here. I am trying hard, saying Christmas! CHristmas! repeatedly in hopes that more than my ears will get warm.

Our weather must have slid around and traded places last night.
It's warmed up to around 40F and now it's raining on top
of the foot or so of snow that is already on the ground.
It's actually quite pleasant despite the rain, and I have
my office window swung open about a foot or so.
There's a bird feeder -- a large platform -- against the glass
on one side of the window, and it is full of birds today.
They know the window is open and see me in the room,
so they're on their best behaviour this morning...
coming and feeding and chirping quietly to each other,
unlike their usual loud shrieks and squeaks as they squabble
over the seed -- of which there is always plenty to go around.
The Dark-eyed Juncos make a sound that reminds me of some
kind of futuristic raygun or maybe the light sabres from Star Wars.

Today, I'm putting together a "backyard bestiary" of my photos
with some light text, to give to my brother's daughter.
She's still very young, but loves insects and other small creatures
so I think she'll find it interesting to look through
even now, and probably even more as she gets a little older.

btw, it was suggested to me that my Santa Caterpillar
looks as though he is wearing candles and that they should,
perhaps be lit up at night,
so he has been revised somewhat....

I give you ~

The Great Psychedelic Cecropia Santa -- with all candles lit!
